Lake Thurmond Living

OUR STORY

About Us

A place to breathe.

Who are we?

We are a small, rural community united in our common desire to belong and to make the most out of our time on earth.  We get the chance to reinvent ourselves on a daily basis.  We work to be our best selves and to make the community a better place than we found it.

We depend on each other and help our neighbors while nourishing each person’s individuality and independent pursuit of happiness.  We are friendly and easy going and believe a strong community of caring people can keep us from the ailments that plague the areas we left to come here.

Our community reminds us of a simpler life of days gone by where people’s feelings matter and everyone knows they can depend on their neighbors when needed.  We feel comfort in our safe surroundings.  While we seem to the outsider to be geographically isolated, we are more insulated from many of the stresses of the outside world while we pursue our personal peace.  We believe in growing our community to benefit all people by listening to and considering the needs of all while holding true to our common vision, goals, and beauty of our surroundings.

We embrace our greatest resources and the natural world that we are blessed to be a part of.  Whether it is the on the lake, on a wooded trail, soaking in our mild weather, or watching the antics of the local wildlife, we take the time to be thankful for what we have been given.

It is through these experiences that we are able to live a healthy mental & physical lifestyle.

About us.

Karen & I grew up in Eastern Pennsylvania and met at Kutztown University of PA in 1983.  After graduation, I took a job in Norcross, GA and Karen soon joined me after her graduation.  We immediately fell in love with the people, the weather, and the wide open spaces and thus our love for the south began.

We bought our lake lot on Lake Thurmond (called Clarks Hill then) in June of 1990 and immediately began camping in the area on most weekends.  We built our home in July of 2001 and made our way from Atlanta every Friday evening and drove back to our jobs on Sunday or Monday (if we were lucky).

Our opportunity to live here full time came in July of 2013 when Karen accepted a teaching position as an elementary art teacher in Columbia County, GA.  I left my Operations Management position in an outdoor sporting goods manufacturer and began my retirement.

My love for the area and my desire to share it with people is what drew me to my career in real estate sales.  It gave me the opportunity to meet great people who are looking for the same things that Karen & I discovered years earlier.  Best of all, I had the chance to pick my neighbors!

Karen retired from teaching in May of 2019 and joined me.  She also teaches fitness classes at the Recreation Center in Savannah Lakes Village.

We are very blessed for all the great fortunes we have experienced in our time here.  You are stuck with us now!
